We offer comprehensive evaluation services to address a variety of issues. Common reasons parents and individuals request testing include lack of progress in school, lagging behind peers in reading, math or writing, trouble finishing tasks quickly, lower than expected performance on standardized tests, difficulty paying attention and following instructions, problems with handwriting and fine motor development, acting out behavior, excessive worry, and persistent sadness or anger.
The testing process begins with an intake which can be done in person or by phone with Dr. Zimmitti. At that time, Dr. Zimmitti will gain information about your concerns so that the appropriate type of evaluation is conducted and detail the testing process for you. Testers and testing dates will also be confirmed at that time. A nonrefundable fee of $200 is required at the time of the intake appointment and will be applied toward the testing fee.
Testing occurs in our office, as well as in schools and homes when appropriate. Often times, the evaluator will perform a school or home observation to see the child in a more natural setting. This is done prior to testing so that the child does not recognize the tester during the observation. This is also an opportunity for the evaluator to meet the teacher and gain information about their concerns. Of course, some parents decide to have their child tested without the school's knowledge and that is equally respected by our evaluators.
The testing process is completed with a final meeting between the parent and the evaluator, and in most cases Dr. Zimmitti. During this meeting, parents are given detailed information about their child's strengths and needs and when appropriate, a formal diagnosis is made. Recommendations are provided for both home and school, as well as any further testing that may be needed. Referrals are given when specific interventions are recommended. At that meeting, you will be provided with the final report. With your written consent, we are happy to provide the report to other professionals or schools.
